CONTROL SYSTEM [KL]
T H R O TT L E PO SITIO N SENSO R INSPECTION [KL]
Inspection of R esistance
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
3. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance
between throttle position sensor terminal A and C.

4. If not as specified, replace the throttle position
sensor.
5. Reconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
Inspection of O utput Voltage
1. If the S S T (104 Pin Breakout Box) are used,
check in the following order.
(1) Remove the PCM. (Refer to 01-40B
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [KL].)
(2) Connect the SS T (104 Pin Breakout Box) to
the PCM as shown.

(3) Tighten the connector attaching screws.
Tightening torque
7.9— 10.7 N m

(4) Verify that the throttle valve is at the closed
throttle position.
(5) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(6) Measure the PCM terminal 89 voltage by
using a voltmeter.
Specification
Closed throttle position: 0.3— 1.0 V
W ide open throttle: 2.8— 4.5 V
(Verify that the voltage increase is directly
proportioned to the throttle valve opening
angle.)
(7) If not as specified, adjust the throttle position
sensor.
2. If the
SSTs
(NGS tester) are used, check in the
following order.
(1) Connect the SSTs (NGS tester) to the data
link connector.
(2)

Verify that the throttle valve is at the closed
throttle position.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Select the “ PID/DATA MONITOR AND
RECORD” function on the NGS tester display
and press TRIGGER.
Select “TP V” on the NGS tester display and
press START. NGS tester measures and
shows the voltage.

Specification
Closed throttle position: 0.3— 1.0 V
W ide open throttle: 2.8— 4.5 V
(Verify that the voltage increase is directly
proportioned to the throttle valve opening
angle.)
(6) If not as specified, adjust the throttle position
sensor.
