The measurement is especially suitable to assess the characteristics and the perform-
ance of the MS receiver at low RF power levels. Because of the higher signal level,
transmission errors produced on the way back (from the MS to the instrument) can
usually be neglected. However, frames destroyed on the way back are detected in a
cyclic redundancy check (CRC) and counted. They are not taken into account in the
calculation of transmission errors.
Established call required
The RX measurement "RX Meas FER FCH" requires a connected loopback call (ser-
vice options 2, 9 or 55) or a test data call (SO32).
The RX measurement "RX Meas FER SCH0" requires a test data call (SO32) to test
the high data rates.
Frame Error Rate (FER) measures the percentage of frame errors over the total num-
ber of frames received. The R&S
CMW monitors the Fundamental Channel (FCH) and
Supplemental Channel 0 (SCH0).
The actual size of the transmitted data blocks during a TDSO frame depends on the
multiplex sublayer command.
FER measurement requires option R&S CMW-KS810 (Signaling Advanced)
Test Procedure
A "RX Measurement FER" involves the following stages:
1. Connect your MS and establish a connection with a loopback service option or test
chapter 4.3.8.1, "Miscellaneous Service Configuration "
on page 538); wait until the R&S
CMW has entered the "Connected" state. For
details refer to
chapter 4.2.2, "Initiating Signaling Tests"
2. Open the "RX Measurement FER FCH/SCH0" and press "ON | OFF" to start the
measurement.
