In other words, the occupied bandwidth is the frequency range [f
l
,f
u
], such that both the
energy (integrated power spectral density) at frequencies below f
l
and the energy at
frequencies above f
u
are 0.5 % of the energy of the carrier.
The R&S
CMW supports OBW limit checks for single and multiple carrier scenarios
with up to three carriers. Limits can be defined for isolated carriers and - in multiple
carrier scenarios - for blocks of adjacent carriers (consisting of either 2 or 3 adjacent
carriers) and for the overall occupied frequency range ("Overall Multi Carrier") .
According to 3GPP2 C.S0033-C, section 4.4.3 "Occupied Bandwidth", ...
●
for single carrier operation, the occupied bandwidth shall not exceed 1.48 MHz
●
for multiple carrier transmission, the recommended OBW limit for each isolated car-
rier is still 1.48 MHz; in case of 2 or 3 adjacent carriers, band class dependent lim-
its are defined, as shown in the tables below
Table 3-2: Occupied bandwidth for Band Class 0 (1.23 MHz channel width)
Adjacency
Occupied Bandwidth
One Isolated Carrier
1.48 MHz
Two Adjacent Carriers
2.71 MHz
Three Adjacent Carriers
3.97 MHz
This corresponds to the default values of "Limit Set A" dedicated to Band Class 0.
Table 3-3: Occupied bandwidth for Band Classes other than 0 (1.25 MHz channel width)
Adjacency
Occupied Bandwidth
One Isolated Carrier
1.48 MHz
Two Adjacent Carriers
2.73 MHz
Three Adjacent Carriers
3.98 MHz
This corresponds to the default values of "Limit Set B" that is used for all other band
classes.
