5) Connect the battery cables to the power tilt motor
2P connector terminals to compress the piston rod fully
once. (Perform <To compress the piston rod> on P. 14-33.)
6) Connect the battery cables to the power tilt motor
2P connector terminals to extend the piston rod fully again.
(Perform <To extend the piston rod> on P. 14-33.)
Read the pressure gauge to measure the lower chamber
side hydraulic pressure with the piston rod extended fully.
• If the measurement is outside the specification, check the
power trim/tilt assembly for oil leakage.
• If the oil is not leaking but the hydraulic pressure dropped
sharp below the specification, oil can be leaking through
the oil seal inside the power tilt motor assembly.
Disassemble the power tilt motor assembly (P. 14-46) and
check it, then measure the lower chamber hydraulic
pressure again (P. 14-36).
7) Measure the upper chamber hydraulic pressure as follows.
• UPPER CHAMBER SIDE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE
INSPECTION
1) After measuring the lower chamber hydraulic pressure,
remove the special tool (gauge joint B) with the piston rod
extended fully and replace it with the special tool (gauge
joint A).
Tighten the special tool (gauge joint A) to the specified
torque.
TORQUE: 1.7 N.m (0.2 kgf.m, 1.3 lbf.ft)

• The ATF will spout out when the special tool (gauge joint
B) is removed unless the piston rod is extended fully. Be
sure to extend the piston rod fully before removing the
special tool (gauge joint B).
• A small quantity of ATF will flow out when the special
tool (gauge joint B) is removed. Install the special tool
(gauge joint A) quickly.
• Take care not to move the seal washer out of position or
collapse it inside the cylinder comp.
2) Install a commercially available pressure gauge to the
special tool (gauge joint A).
3) Check the ATF level with the piston rod extended fully
(P. 14-34).
It must be at the edge of the oil filler port.
