d. INSTALLATION
1) Move the shift to the "N" (Neutral) position.
2) Check that the shift rod B in the gear case assembly is in the
"N" (Neutral) position.
To check:
Check whether the shift rod B is in the middle position. [It
indicates that the shift rod B is in the "N" (Neutral) position.]
3) Tilt the outboard motor up to the uppermost position. Pull
the tilt stopper down to secure the outboard motor.
4) Apply marine grease to the vertical shaft spline, water tube
insertion part and to the inner wall of the water tube seal
ring of the impeller housing.
Install the vertical shaft bushing in the extension separator
and apply marine grease to the inner wall of the vertical
shaft bushing [Extra-long shaft type only] (P. 11-4).
5) Install the two 6 x 10 mm dowel pins on the gear case.
While aligning the water tube with the water tube seal ring
of the impeller housing, align the vertical shaft with the
primary driven gear and install the gear case assembly on
the outboard motor.
6) Loosely tighten the four 10 mm washers, four 10 x 40 mm
hex bolts, 8 mm washer and the 8 x 65 mm hex bolt on the
gear case assembly [Short/long shaft types only].
Loosely tighten the four 10 mm washers, four 10 mm self-
locking nuts, 8 mm washer and the 8 mm self-locking nut
on the gear case assembly [Semi-long/extra-long shaft
types only] (P. 11-4).
7) Lower the outboard motor to the lowermost position.
Tighten the four 10 x 40 mm hex bolts and 8 x 65 mm hex
bolt to the specified torque [Short/long shaft types only].
Tighten the four 10 mm self-locking nuts and 8 mm self-
locking nut to the specified torque [Semi-long/extra-long
shaft types only] (P. 11-4).
TORQUE:
10 x 40 mm hex bolt, 10 mm self-locking nut:
35 N.m (3.6 kgf.m, 26 lbf.ft)
8 x 65 mm hex bolt, 8 mm self-locking nut:
22 N.m (2.2 kgf.m, 16 lbf.ft)
