2. POWER TILT MOTOR [POWER
TRIM/TILT TYPE ONLY]
a. REMOVAL
• Do not use a shop towel, cloth or gloves during removal.
• Do not reuse the drained ATF (automatic transmission fluid).
• Clean the removed parts in fresh ATF and blow each port of
the parts with compressed air. Set the parts neatly in a
suitable container with care not to contaminate them with
durst or dirt.
• Do not reuse the O-rings and oil seals.
Check that the piston rod of the power trim/tilt assembly is
extended fully.
If the piston rod has been pushed in, operate the motor
assembly until the piston rod extends fully.
1) Remove the power trim/tilt assembly from the outboard
motor (P. 14-2).
Loosen the manual valve fully.
2) Hold the cylinder comp. in a vise.
When holding the cylinder comp. in a vise, do not tighten
the vise excessively. The cylinder comp. can be damaged.
NOTICE
3) Open the tie-wrap band and the harness band clip to
release the motor wire.
4) Remove the four screw washers, and remove the power tilt
motor assembly and the motor wire bracket A.
5) Drain the ATF (automatic transmission fluid) from the gear
pump chamber.
• Do not push the piston rod in during draining.
6) Remove the O-ring from the power tilt motor assembly.
Replace the O-ring with a new one on reassembly.
7) Remove the drive joint from the gear pump assembly.
8) After removing the power tilt motor assembly, store it in a
clean vinyl bag or equivalent material to protect it from
dust and dirt.
