HARDWARE REPLACEMENT
The following sections explain how to safely replace subassemblies in the VP 300 cabinet. None of the
subassemblies contain any replaceable components. Replacing, attempting to replace, or modifying any
component of a subassembly voids all warranties. An assembly may be replaced by Toshiba with an
equivalent assembly.
To install or replace a CPU, a VCU, floppy disk drives, or the power supply unit, the system power must be
removed by switching OFF the power supply unit. See the Power Supply Unit (PSU) section in this chapter
for details about turning OFF power to the cabinet. Hard disk drives, line interface cards, and integration
cards can be replaced with the power supply unit ON. Refer to the Hard Disk Drive Replacement section in
this chapter for considerations regarding hot plug replacement of disk drives. The system must be restarted
if a line interface card or integration card is added. For release levels prior to 5.4, the system power must be
OFF to install or replace integration cards or hard disk drives.
When replacing or installing sub-assemblies in the VP 300 cabinet:
•
Always wear an anti-static wrist strap before handling any parts.
◆
WARNING
◆
To avoid damaging electronic assemblies, use the antistatic wrist strap. Put on the strap
before a component is removed from its static bag. Wrap one end around your wrist and
attach the other end to the sheet metal panel above the card cage inside the chassis. The
VP 300 must be plugged in to a grounded outlet. Wear the strap during the entire
replacement procedure.
•
Close and lock the cabinet door when not working on the cabinet. The door should not be left open
for more than 1 hour at a time.
■
Printed Circuit Assemblies (PCA) Replacement
The following replacement procedure is specifically for the replacement of voice control units (VCU)
and central processing units (CPU). To replace line interface cards (LIC), refer to Line Card
Replacement in this chapter. To replace integration cards, refer to the Integration Card Replacement
section in this chapter.
◆
WARNING
◆
Printed Circuit Assemblies as well as other assemblies in the VP 300 contain static
sensitive components. The human body can easily store enough static electricity to
damage a PCA. To avoid discharging this energy to electronic assemblies and damaging
them, always use an anti-static wrist strap.
