11.2
DAC OVERVIEW
The Direct Access Card (DAC) is an optional interface card available for the VP 300. When used in
place of the standard Line Interface Card (LIC), the DAC allows incoming DID trunks to terminate
(connect) directly to the VP 300 cabinet. A second application is to terminate outgoing PBX trunks
to the DAC (for message taking only) rather than to the CO.
The DAC is ideal for message center and message taking applications where calls are forwarded to
a DAC port and the called party’s extension number is received utilizing in-band signaling from the
serving CO or PBX. The DAC port answers with the called party’s personal greeting and allows the
caller to leave a message.
☞
Incoming CO or TIE trunks cannot be terminated (connected) to the DAC.
The DAC includes the following features:
• Provides four interface ports on each printed circuit assembly (PCA), configurable to interface
with an incoming DID trunk or outgoing PBX trunk.
• Configurable for immediate, wink, or delay-dial start DID trunks.
• Configurable for loop or ground start PBX trunks.
• Configurable for DTMF or rotary address recognition.
■
DAC Application Considerations
The use of the DAC is restricted to applications where the callers are never required to be
transferred out of the VP 300. This card does not provide any call processing functionality. The
following considerations should be addressed when using the DAC:
•
The serving switching system must be capable of sending the called party’s extension
number or a number representing the mailbox of the called party.
•
The first digit cannot be a 9 or 0, and the total number of digits cannot be greater than
eight. The DID TRANSLATION Table cannot be used with DAC.
•
The DAC ports cannot be connected to telephone lines that provide ringing to indicate
incoming calls.
•
The DAC is similar to other VP 300 LICs in that it provides four ports and fits in the
cabinet in the same way as other LICs.
The DAC is not allowed in slot A12.
•
The VP High Fidelity Greeting Adapter (part number is D.I.A.L. 5000) must not be
plugged into a DAC port as serious damage to the adapter may result. A standard VP 300
line interface card must be used to record greetings with the adapter.
