[Integral ABS] Filling brake-fluid
reservoir for rear wheel circuit and rear
control circuit

Note:
The rear wheel circuit and control circuit have a
shared expansion tank. Only fill the reservoir after all
the work on the two circuits has been completed.
•
Remove brake pads, if not already removed
(
a
00.43).
•
Open cap of rear wheel-circuit reservoir, if not al-
ready open.
•
Fit the wheel circuit reservoir (4) if necessary.

Attention:
Install piston resetting tool,
BMW No. 34 1 531
,
only when the cap has been removed from the
wheel-circuit reservoir.
•
If necessary, install resetting
tool,
BMW No. 34 1 531
, in the brake caliper.
•
Install 23 adapter,
BMW No. 34 1 534
, in reset-
ting tool,
BMW No. 34 1 531
, in the brake cali-
per.
•
Clamp the adapter in the resetting tool.
•
Switch on the ignition.

Note:
After switching on the ignition, always wait for the
BMW Integral ABS to complete its self-diagnosis.
Do not operate the brake lever until self-diagnosis
has completed.
•
Very gently press the footbrake lever until the
pump just starts up.
•
Release the brake lever.
•
Top up the wheel-circuit reservoir (4) to the
MAX
mark.
•
Undo the fasteners on the wheel circuit
reservoir (4).
•
Screw the filler bottle,
BMW No. 34 1 581
, onto
the rear wheel circuit reservoir.
•
Remove the 23 adapter,
BMW No. 34 1 533
,
and press back the pistons with the reset device
until the brake pads can be inserted.
•
Fit brake pads.
•
Bed in pads with the ignition switched on.
•
Remove the filler bottle from the wheel circuit re-
servoir.
•
Hand-tighten cap of the rear-wheel reservoir.
•
Fit the wheel circuit reservoir.
•
Perform a function check on the brake system
with the ignition switched on.
•
Switch off the ignition.

Attention:
After all the work on the brake system has been
completed, run a bleed test using the
BMW
MoDiiTeC!
•
Perform bleed test with
BMW
MoDiTeC
(
a
00.35).
