Attach measuring fixture (2),

BMW No. 33 2 600

with dial gauge,

BMW No. 00 2 510

, to crown

wheel (3) and secure to the housing with knurled
screw (4).

•

Attach measuring arm (1),

BMW No. 33 2 604

centrally to crown wheel (3).

Note:

Check tooth backlash at three points 120 degrees
apart; turn the bevel pinion with the crown wheel.

•

Press the crown wheel (3) into the housing with
the palm of the hand and turn to and fro to check
tooth backlash.

Backlash:

(Setting without oil

Compensate for excessive tooth backlash by in-
serting a thinner shim washer (5) or insert a thick-
er one if tooth backlash is insufficient.
