Key to maintenance intervals
Maintenance intervals consist of the first Inspection
(after the first 1,000 km / 600 miles), the BMW Ser-
vice, BMW Inspection and BMW Annual Service.
Inspection 1,000 km (600 miles)
BMW Running-in Check after the first 1,000 km
(600 miles).
BMW Service
After the first 10,000 km (6,000 miles) and each ad-
ditional 20,000 km (12,000 miles) at 30,000 km
(18,000 miles) ... 50,000 km (30,000 miles) ...
70,000 km (42,000 miles).
BMW Inspection
After the first 20,000 km (12,000 miles) and each
additional 20,000 km (12,000 miles) at 40,000 km
(24,000 miles) ... 60,000 km (37,000 miles) ...
80,000 km (49,000 miles).
BMW Annual Service
Certain maintenance tasks depend on elapsed time
as well as the distance the motorcycle has covered.
They should therefore be carried out at least once a
year (e.g. changing brake fluid).
If these tasks cannot be carried out during a Service
or an Inspection, an Annual Service must be perfor-
med.
In this Repair Manual, the individual maintenance in-
tervals are shown by the following codes:

Warning:
When performing maintenance and repair work on
the BMW Integral ABS, avoid rapid and forceful
pumping of the brakes.
•
Perform bleed test.
•
Perform any repair work indicated.
