Removing/installing frame

e

 Important:

Disconnect the negative battery terminal first, then 
the positive terminal. Connect the positive battery 
terminal first, then the negative terminal.

–

Remove the battery (

a

Remove the rear frame (

a 

46.24).

 Important:

Comply with safety regulations; fuel lines are pres-
surised.

–

Remove fuel tank (

a 

16.5).

–

Remove left/right radiators with fans (

a 

17.7).

–

Remove fuel injection rail (

a 

13.7).

•

Remove throttle-valve rail together with intake air 
silencer.

 Note:

Disconnect throttle cable at throttle-valve rail.

[Cruise control] 

Disengage Bowden cable for 

cruise control (

a 

13.14).

–

Remove the fairing carrier (

a 

46.16).

•

Disconnect the plugs for the instrument cluster in 
the electronic equipment box and take off the in-
strument cluster.

–

Remove the engine spoiler (

a 

46.14).

–

Remove engine spoiler holder (

a 

46.14).

•

Secure lifter, 

BMW No. 00 1 510

, to oil sump.

•

Disconnect plugs for ignition signal transmitter 
and oil pressure switch and guide the cables 
through downwards.

–

Remove the rear right footrest holder 
(

a 

46.23).

–

Remove the left footrest assembly (

a 

46.22).

–

Remove the right footrest assembly (

a 

46.21).

 Important:

Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with 
painted parts of the motorcycle, because brake fluid 
destroys paint.

–

Drain the brake system (

a 

34.16)/(

a 

34.16).

•

Disconnect brake hose from brake cylinder.

•

Disconnect brake lines from retaining plate at 
rear right and seal the brake lines and hoses.

•

Disconnect the plugs for the rear ABS sensor 
and the brake light switch.

•

Remove the rear wheel drive together with the 
retaining plate for the brake lines and the right 
footrest assembly.

 Note:

Do not lay oil-filled rear wheel drive on its side prior 
to installation: this will cause oil to escape later, 
when the motorcycle is ridden (suction effect).

 Warning:

Note high loosening torque at lock ring and left/right 
threaded rings and bearing studs.

–

Remove rear swinging arm (

a 

33.21).

–

Remove the rear suspension strut (

a 

33.25).

•

Disconnect the brake hoses from the front holder 
(arrow) and seal the brake hoses and lines.

•

Disconnect the brake lines from the pressure 
modulator and seal the brake lines.

•

Disconnect the brake lines for the front brakes, 
detach the holder for the front brake lines from 
the frame and remove the brake lines.

•

Disconnect the brake lines for the rear brakes 
and remove the brake lines.

•

Disconnect the plug for the pressure modulator.
