Disassembling and assembling

front brake caliper

Attention:

not separate

the brake caliper halves!

•

Remove the split-pin keeper (1) from grub
screw (2).

•

Remove the grub screw.

•

Remove brake pads.

–

Remove the brake caliper (

34.5).

•

Close the bleed screw.

•

Secure two opposing brake pistons with spacer,

BMW No. 34 1 520

•

Insert a piece of cloth between the two brake pis-
tons not secured by the resetting tool.

Attention:

Do not insert your fingers between the pistons; risk
of injury.

•

Carefully

press out brake pistons (5), using a

compressed air gun at the brake line connection.

•

Remove the two sealing rings from each brake
cylinder bore.

•

Inspect the brake caliper piston for hairline
cracks, score-marks and other damage.

•

Coat new sealing rings (3, 4) with brake fluid and
install.

•

Coat the brake pistons (5) with brake fluid and in-
stall; force the pistons all the way back.

Attention:

Keep the brake pistons parallel with their bores
when installing.

•

Remove and install the other two brake pistons
in the same way, remembering to force them
back all the way when installing.

–

Install brake caliper (

34.5).

•

If necessary, use the reset device,

BMW No. 34 1 531

, and the

positioning piece,

BMW No. 34 1 532

, to press the pistons com-

pletely back.

•

Insert brake pads and secure with retainers
(

00.42).

Tightening torque:

Bleed screw to brake caliper .......................... 7 Nm
