Press radiator with fan into holder at left/right.

[Only for installing engine]
Install left and right radiators with fans

(

17.7).

–

Connect the plugs for the ignition signal trans-
mitter, water pump temperature sensor and oil
pressure switch.

–

Install the lid of the electronic equipment box.

–

Insert radiator with fan into holder at left and
right.

–

Install the fasteners.

–

Connect the plugs for the left/right fans.

–

Connect the breather hose and the connecting
hose to the right-hand radiator at the top of the
left radiator.

–

Connect the coolant hoses to the coolant stub
pipe.

–

Connect the coolant hose to the coolant stub
pipe at the bottom of the right-hand radiator.

–

Fill the cooling system.

Connect the plugs and lines for the engine and
gearbox.

•

Connect cable for starter at adapter.

•

Connect the cables to the alternator.

•

Connect the earth (ground) lead to the upper
cross-tube.

•

Connect the plug for the side stand switch.

•

Connect the plug for the oxygen sensor.

•

Connect the plug for the temperature sensor at
the cylinder head.

•

Connect the plug for the gear indicator switch.

Important:

Tighten the clutch slave cylinder fasteners uniformly
and in diagonally opposite sequence.

•

Install the clutch slave cylinder.

•

Secure the cable tie.

•

Install the clutch bleed line and secure it to the
frame.

Install the lower cross-tube

(

Tighten lower cross-tube to frame.

–

Install left footrest assembly.

–

Install right footrest assembly with brake line and
master cylinder.

–

Connect the gear shift lever and close the retain-
ing hoop.

Install drive shaft

(

and swinging arm

(

33.24).

–

Install drive shaft.

–

Install swinging arm and screw in bearing studs
hand-tight.

–

Tighten suspension strut at swinging arm.

Note:

Use special socket wrench insert,

BMW No. 33 6 641

, with opening for locking ring

socket wrench,

BMW No. 33 6 642

to prevent the

threaded ring from turning.

–

Tighten the bearing stud, threaded ring and lock-
ing ring.

–

Install the circlips at left and right with the hook
facing outwards.

Install rear wheel drive

(

33.19).

–

Push rear wheel drive with rear drive shaft on to
front drive shaft.

–

Connect reaction link to rear wheel drive.

–

Push flexible gaiter over swinging arm and se-
cure with strap.

–

Tighten the left/right bearing studs and the left
locknut.

–

Install the rear brake caliper.

•

[Without Integral ABS]

Install inductive signal

transmitter.

–

Install the front section of the rear carrier (front
section of rear wheel splash guard) and connect
the plug for the power socket.

–

Install the tail side sections.

•

[Option case holders]

Tighten the left/right case

holder at the front.

Install the rear wheel
