[Integral ABS] Removing/
installing front brake disc

Warning:
Carefully press back the pistons as you remove/in-
stall the brake callipers as the wheel circuit reservoir
must not overflow.
If fluid escapes, proceed in accordance with “In-
structions for filling reservoir” (
a
00.47).

Remove front wheel (
a
36.5).

Attention:
Screw is secured with a thread-locking compound.
•
Take out the five fasteners (1) of brake disc (2).
•
Take off brake disc (2) and, at the left, sensor
wheel (3) as well.
•
Installation is the reverse of the removal proce-
dure. Pay particular attention to the following:

Attention:
Degrease brake disc (2) before installing.
Note hole pattern on brake disc (2); the arrow points
in the forward travel direction.
Insert screw with
Loctite 243
.
X
Tightening torque:
Brake disc to front wheel
(clean apply Loctite 243) ................ 21 Nm
Brake caliper to fork slider............................ 30 Nm

Warning:
Carefully press back the pistons as you remove/in-
stall the brake callipers as the wheel circuit reservoir

If fluid escapes, proceed in accordance with “In-
structions for filling reservoir” (

Remove rear wheel (
a
36.8).

Remove the brake caliper.

Note:
Mark the installed position of brake disc (4) at rear
wheel drive (5), so that vertical runout of the sensor
wheel is not altered.

Attention:
Screw is secured with a thread-locking compound.
•
Heat the fasteners (arrows) for brake disc (4) to
120 °C (248 °F).
•
Installation is the reverse of the removal proce-
dure. Pay particular attention to the following:

Attention:
Degrease brake disc (4) before installing.
When installing, use new screws or clean the thread
and apply Loctite 2701.
If a new brake disc (4) is installed, the sensor wheel
must be re-marked.

Note:
Checking/adjusting the ABS sensor gap is required
after replacement of the brake disc.

If required, check/adjust ABS sensor gap
(
a
34.11).

Tightening torque:
Brake disc to rear wheel drive (new screws or clean
apply Loctite 2701) ........................ 21 Nm
Brake caliper to rear wheel drive .................. 40 Nm
