[Integral ABS] Marking rear
ABS sensor ring
–
Remove rear wheel (
a
36.8).
–
Remove the ABS sensor(
a
34.10).

Attention:
Screw is secured with a thread-locking compound.
•
Remove the upper fastener (arrow) from the re-
taining bracket (1).
•
Screw dial gauge holder,
BMW No. 00 2 500
,
with dial gauge,
BMW No. 00 2 510
, and meas-
uring shoe,
BMW No. 34 2 510
, on to retaining
bracket (1) for the ABS sensor.
•
Zero the dial gauge.
•
Measure axial runout over the entire circumfer-
ence of the ABS sensor wheel.
e
Attention:
If replacement parts are fitted, the sensor wheel
must be re-marked; remove the old mark.
•
With a touch-up pencil, make a permanent mark
at the point on the ABS sensor ring at the great-
est distance from the ABS sensor.
–
If required, check/adjust ABS sensor gap
(
a
34.11).
•
Installation is the reverse of the removal proce-
dure. Pay particular attention to the following:
•
Replace the fastener for retaining bracket (1).

Tightening torque:
Retaining bracket to brake caliper
(clean apply Loctite 243) .................. 8 Nm

adjusting rear ABS sensor

Note:
Checking/adjusting the ABS sensor gap is required
after replacement of the following components:
– ABS sensor ring, brake disc
– Brake caliper, retaining bracket for ABS
– Cover of rear wheel drive housing
– Crown gear.
Checking ABS sensor gap
•
Align the marked point on sensor ring (4) with
ABS sensor (2).
•
Check ABS sensor gap by inserting a feeler
gauge between ABS sensor and sensor wheel.
Adjust ABS sensor gap
–
Remove rear wheel (
a
36.8).
•
Slacken
ABS sensor.
e
Attention:
After adjusting, check clearance of the ABS sensor
round the entire circumference of the sensor ring.
•
Adjust/check ABS sensor gap with spacer (3).
ABS sensor gap
..... 0.2...1.5 mm (0.0079...0.06 in)
