Removing timing case cover

•

Remove the screw plug (arrow) for the pin in the 
timing case cover.

•

Prevent chain tensioner (1) from moving with pin, 

BMW No. 11 6 740

.

 Note:

Turn or press the camshaft in the normal direction of 
rotation (for about 20 to 30 seconds if the engine is 
cold) until the oil is forced out of the chain tensioner 
and the pin can be inserted fully.

•

Take out the screws, loosen the timing case cov-
er with light blows of a plastic-faced hammer and 
take it off.

e

 Important:

When the timing case cover is removed, locate the 
preshaped shaft sealing ring in the timing case cov-
er with slip-over sleeve,

Insert slip-over sleeve,

, into 

shaft sealing ring in timing case cover.

•

Release the tension at the chain tensioner and 
remove it from the timing case cover.
