Programming Operations Guide
Configuring a LAN interface
1
On the navigation tree, click the
Resources
key and click the
LAN
key.
The available LAN interfaces appear.
2
Click the LAN interface you want to configure (for example,
LAN1)
.
The LAN Summary screen appears.
3
Configure the LAN attributes according to the information provided in the following table.
Note:
The settings in the table above ensure data routing uses a maximum of 60 to 70 percent
CPU cycles.
If the LAN to WAN link speed is 10 mbps, selecting higher traffic smoothing parameters
has no impact on packet forwarding, which the system still performs at a link speed of
10 mbps.

LAN Summary attributes
Attribute
Description
IP Address
Enter the IP address of the LAN interface in the following format: 255.255.255.255.
If you do not know your LAN interface IP address, contact your network administrator or your
Internet service provider.
Web Cache:
If you have enabled Web Cache, you must update the Web Cache page when
you change the IP address of the interface. Refer to
“Web Cache page update required” on
page 725
.
IP Phones (Phase 2):
If you change the IP address of the BCM, any Phase 2 IP Phones using
DHCP will lose their connection to the BCM. You must reboot the Phase 2 IP Phones to
reconnect to the BCM.
SubNet Mask
Enter the subnet mask of the LAN interface in the following format: 255.255.255.255.
If you do not know your subnet mask address, contact your network administrator or your
Internet service provider.
Physical Address
Shows the physical address (MAC address) of the LAN interface.
This is a read only attribute.
Description
Provides a description of the network interface card supporting the LAN connection.
This is a read only attribute.
Version
Shows the version of the LAN interface card.
This is a read only attribute.
Speed
Shows the speed of the connection to the LAN interface.
This is a read only attribute.
