Maintaining the Calibration Gas Module
The calibration gas module on the ISQ 7000 mass spectrometer is very easy to maintain
because it is inside the front door of the instrument and you only have to refill the calibration
gas reservoir every couple of years. If you need to replace the calibration gas module, refer to
Replacing the Calibration Gas Components
.
The calibration compound is a liquid that forms a vapor with a mass spectrum that is used to
tune and calibrate a mass spectrometer. The ISQ 7000 instrument uses FC 43 as its
calibration compound.
You may suspect that it is time to refill the reservoir when you are running a tune and the
report shows very low calibration gas intensities and the ratio of N
2
(%28/69) increases
dramatically from previous tunes even though there is no air leak. When this occurs, confirm
that the calibration gas is low by monitoring the air/water spectra in manual tune with the
calibration gas off. Then confirm the intensities are a least ten-fold larger when the calibration
gas is on.
Note
See the
ISQ and TSQ GC-MS Spare Parts Guide
for information about ordering
calibration gas components.
