Installation Manual

Connecting SONET/SDH Systems to WaveStar OLS 
40G

Connect SONET/SDH to Optical Line 
System (OLS)

Description

This procedure is broken into two parts:

■

Connect Generic SONET/SDH transmitters to Optical Translator, and

■

Connect compatible SONET/SDH transmitters to OLS. OLS-compatible 
transmitters include:

— OC-48/STM-16 Optical Translator Units — 41A( ), 41A( )B, 41A( )C, 

41C( ), 41C( )B, 41C( )C, 41D( ), and 41F( ).

— OC-3/STM-1 Optical Translator Port Modules — 43A( )

— OC-12/STM-4 Optical Translator Port Modules — 42A( )

— Low-Speed Broadband Optical Translator Port Modules — 44A( )

— OC-48 FT-2000 Add/Drop-Rings Terminal with Release 7.2 or later - 

739E( ) or 739G( )

— OC-48 FT-2000 Large Capacity Terminal with Release 1.0 or later 

—739D( ) or 739F( )

Connect Generic 
SONET/SDH 
Transmitters to OT

For SONET/SDH systems with WaveStar OLS 40G compatible transmitters, 
proceed to the “Connect Compatible SONET/SDH Transmitter to OLS: page 11-8" 
section.

Measure Level Into OT

NOTE:

At any time throughout the test procedure, remove attenuated test cable if 
measured power is within the range of the optical power meter.

Step

Action

1 

At the SONET/SDH system, clean and connect the assigned jumper to 
the proper output jack.

2 

At the OTU or OTPM, clean then connect the fiber jumper from SONET/
SDH system to an optical power meter.
