Connecting the
Cabinet to
Building Ground Introduction
The following section provides the procedures necessary to connect the cabinets
to building or office ground to:
1. provide a direct earth ground connection for lightning protection.
2. provide a common ground potential for electrostatic discharge (ESD)
protection.
Additional Information
All WaveStar OLS 40G and OT cabinets are shipped with ground cable
assemblies attached to the frame. It will be necessary to terminate the ground
wire in the cable rack. When a cabinet is installed, it should be connected to the
building ground as soon as possible after the cable rack is installed.
Connecting the Cabinet to Building Ground
Follow the steps listed below to connect the Cabinet to building ground:
NOTE:
The building ground cable associated with raised floor installations may be
below the floor. It is permissible to attach a ground wire nearer the base of
the frame if the contact area has been cleaned down to bare metal.
Step Action
1 Connect the ground cable lug to the bay frame at the unpainted area in
the upper back right corner on the frame with two (2) #12-24 x 1/4
screws. (See note below for installation on raised floors.)
2 Connect the 6-gauge stranded ground wire to the building ground cable
using a crimped Thomas & Betts 54720 C-tap lug. The recommended
crimping tool is a Thomas & Betts TBM5S with die code “brown.”
