WaveStar OLS 40G Fiber and Circuit Pack Installation
Telemetry Feed-Through Installation
Overview With the current WaveStar OLS 40G design, the operations domain is limited in
scope to a system that consists of two End Terminals and zero or more repeaters
in between. This domain is often referred to as a WaveStar OLS 40G subnetwork.
In a SONET/SDH ring network there can be multiple concatenated OLS
subnetworks, each one on a span of the ring. Each subnetwork is isolated from
the others and requires a separate control link from the central monitoring system.
At a site where two WaveStar OLS 40G End Terminals are co-located, each
representing an end of an OLS subnetwork, the Telemetry Feed-Through feature
provides a DCC path from the End Terminal of one subnetwork to the End
Terminal of the next subnetwork. This in effect combines all the OLS subnetworks
into a single network with regard to the operations domain.
The following operations interworking functions are now available from a single
access point:

Remote TL1 access through GNE
■
Remote NE status
■
Remote software copy
■
Single DS-NE
■
Network Map Retrieval
The DCC protection switching will still work on a per-span basis. Here, the span
can be the side-1 span, the side-2 span, or the fiber jumpers interconnecting the
co-located End Terminals.
Circuit Pack
Installation In order to install the Telemetry Feed-Through application, a 1A-TX (one or two
OAs) or a 1A-RCV (one or two OAs) must already by installed. If this has not yet
been done, refer to the subsection of this chapter to install the 1A-TX or 1A-RCV
end terminal before proceeding.
Two additional LDA1 telemetry packs are required per End Terminal shelf, four in
all. They are inserted in the 1B and 2B telemetry slots of the two end terminals.
