ODU Tests (Continued)

ODU Test 
Procedures

Use the following steps to preform the ODU test:

1 

To perform the following ODU tests, APSD must be 
disabled to produce a valid OA signal. Disable APSD at 
this time.

See Danger 
notice on 
previous 
page.

2 

Open the input to the test source amplifier as follows:

— For 1A-TX end terminals, verify the fiber is 

removed from OA 1B IN to verify no signal is 
driving the OA.

— For 1A-RCV end terminals, verify the fiber is 

removed from OA 1A IN to verify no signal is 
driving the OA.

— For a dual facing shelf, consider line 1 a 1A-RCV 

configuration, and line 2 a 2A-TX configuration.

3 

Connect the output of the source OA to the INPUT port 
of the ODU for line 1.

4 

Connect the optical power meter to OCHAN1 OUT of the 
ODU. Note the power meter reading.

Requirement: The power meter should show a power 
level greater than –36 dB.

5 

Move the optical power meter to the next OCHAN_ OUT 
and measure the power level. 

Requirement: The power meter should show a power 
level greater than –36 dB and within approximately 
10 dB of OCHAN 1 OUT. The power level should 
increase slightly through the middle wavelengths and 
taper back to the original value from OCHAN 1 at the 
higher wavelengths.
