Connecting SONET/SDH Systems to WaveStar OLS
40G
Background (Continued)
OTU and OTPM
Information
(continued)
The 42B OTPM circuit pack generates a OC-12/STM-4 signal in the 1330-nm
range for other OC-12/STM-4 receivers. For detailed information, refer to the
APOG (365-575-386).
43-Type OTPMs
Each of these Optical Translator Port Modules (OTPM) electrically regenerates a
single input OC-3/STM-1 optical signal and inserts the tone required by WaveStar
OLS 40G onto that signal. The sixteen 43Ax OTPM codes support the 1550-nm
wavelengths on the WaveStar OLS 40G systems with total dispersion not
exceeding 10,900 ps/nm.
This type of OTPM accepts any OC-3/STM-1 wavelength in the 1280-1335 nm or
1480- to 1580-nm range and converts it to an electrical STS-3 signal. The
electrical STS-3 signal is reshaped, retimed, and amplified.
The 43B OTPM circuit pack generates an OC-3/STM-1 signal in the 1330-nm
range for other OC-3/STM-1 receivers. For detailed information associated with
the 43A and 43B OTPM circuit packs, refer to the APOG (365-575-386).
44-Type OTPMs
Each of these Low-Speed Broadband (LSBB) Optical Translator Port Modules
(OTPM) accepts any OC-3/STM-1, OC-12/STM-4, or 100-750 Mb/s optical signal,
converts it to an electrical signal, amplifies the signal, inserts an identification tone
required by WaveStar OLS 40G and produces the code specified optical output.
The sixteen 44Ax OTPM codes support the 1500-nm wavelengths on the
WaveStar OLS 40G systems with a total dispersion not exceeding 10,900 ps/nm.
The 44B OTPM circuit pack generates an OC-3/STM-1, OC-12/STM-4, or 100-
750 Mb/s signal in the 1330 nm range for other receivers. For additional
information regarding 44-type OTPMs, refer to the APOG (365-575-386).
The LSBB OTPMs do not perform clock recovery on their input data stream and
hence have no way to control jitter accumulation. The LSBB OTPMs should not
be used to concatenate WaveStar OLS 40G systems. Signals entering an end
terminal from an LSBB OTPM must be dropped at the next end terminal.
