Connecting 2-Fiber
SONET/SDH
Systems
A 2-fiber SONET/SDH system uses one line for transmission as shown in
Figure 2-16. The SONET/SDH Terminal shown uses OLS compatible optics to
connect directly to the WaveStar OLS 40G (no OTUs required).

Connecting 4-Fiber
SONET/SDH
Systems A 4-fiber SONET/SDH system typically uses two lines for transmission providing
service and protection equipment diversity (shown in Figure 2-17). A 4-fiber
SONET/SDH system can place service and protection on different wavelengths of
the same optical line if there is a shortage of fibers (shown in Figure 2-18). The
SONET/SDH Terminals shown use OLS compatible optics to connect directly to
the system
