Considerations
The following engineering rules must be applied for the systems mentioned below:
1. Release 2.0 or higher: For 7 & 8 span applications using LEA7 OAs, place
a 3-dB LBO on the output of each Optical Amplifier except those feeding
the ODUs.
2. Release 3.0 or higher: For 5 span applications using LEA104 OAs, place
a 3-dB LBO on the output of each Optical Amplifier except those feeding
the ODUs.
3. Release 2.1 or higher: For 16 wavelength systems, verify the placement of
a 7-dB LBO on the receive OA output (between the OA OUT and the ODU
IN.)
OA Applications
The WaveStar OLS 40G can be configured for many different span and
wavelength combinations. The associated span losses, total reaches, and
allowable number of spans for two-OA and one-OA systems are shown in
Table 10-2 and Table 10-3, respectively.
