Fiber Connections
Ring Closure Verification
Background
Line verification procedures check optical line continuity between WaveStar OLS
40G sites. This procedure assumes that the fiber has been connected at each
WaveStar OLS 40G site as detailed earlier in this chapter.
Line Verification
Procedure
Perform the steps in the following table to verify the fiber is properly connected
and the WaveStar OLS 40G sites are communicating with each other:
NOTE:
If at any step the requirements are not met, resolve the problem using
procedures in the 365-575-387 WaveStar OLS 40G User/Service Manual
before proceeding.
Step Action
1 Log into any WaveStar OLS 40G site using the CMC PC.
2 Execute CONFIGURATION.Retreive.Ring.Map.
Requirement: Verify the TIDs are all listed correctly. Verify the
communication status is good for each site.
3 Execute FAULT.Retreive.Alarms.Network.
Requirement: Verify there are no alarms at the requested level.
4 Execute FAULT.Retreive.Alarms.All.
Requirement: Verify there are no local alarms.
5 Execute SECURITY.Retreive.System.
Requirement: Verify the APSD state is ENABLED. If it is not, use the
SECURITY.Enter.System command to ENABLE the APSD.
6 Log into another site using the correct TID.
Requirement: Verify the Alarm and Status Report displayed upon logging
in reports no alarms.
7 Execute SECURITY.Retreive.System at the remote site.
Requirement: Verify the APSD state is ENABLED. If it is not, use the
SECURITY.Enter.System command to ENABLE the APSD.
8 Repeat Steps 6 and 7 for all sites in the optical line system.
