Overview
Basic Information
This section describes how to establish the optical line system. Some general
information on lightwave jumpers and optical line buildouts is given in the following
sections as a quick reference. Refer to 365-575-387 WaveStar OLS 40G User/
Service Manual for complete details. Read and understand the optical line
buildout selection procedure before starting to connect fibers.
General
Considerations
Note the following before starting the procedures which follow:
n
Disconnect the office alarms cable at the WaveStar OLS 40G Network
Element before performing any tests. Reconnect the office alarms cable
after completing tests.
n
Be sure each Network Element has completely passed all of the tests in
the previous sections of this document.
n
Required equipment is listed in Section 1 of this document, “Overall
Installation and Test Considerations”. An optical power meter is needed to
perform the steps in this section.
n
A general familiarity with the CMC is assumed, each and every key stroke
is not detailed. Refer to the 365-575-387 WaveStar OLS 40G User/Service
Manual, Tab 11, “Craft Interface Terminal Usage”, or Appendix F of this
document for complete CMC use instructions.
n
Do not use cable ties with the optical fiber.
n
Place optical fiber jumpers in protective tube or channel, such as polyvinyl
chloride (PVC) tubing when running the cable from the WaveStar OLS 40G
to the cable rack. Protective tubing is supplied in the Installation Kit
(C848065959).
n
Place optical fiber jumpers in the cable rack in a protective channel with
nothing on top of them.
n
Maintain a minimum of 1.5 inches of optical fiber bend radius.
n
Optical fiber jumpers require ST, FC, LC, or SC type connectors for
connection to the WaveStar OLS 40G.
n
Before removing a fiber jumper from an OA output connector, the safest
way to avoid damage and minimize the power level is to first unseat the OA.
