6.13.9 Standard Event Status and Enable Register (ESR, ESE)

The ESR is already defined in the IEEE 488.2 standard. It is comparable to the EVENt
register of an SCPI register. The Standard Event Status Register can be read out by
the query

Query Error

This bit is set in either of the two following cases: the controller wants to read data from the
device but has not sent a query, or it sends new commands to the device before it retrieves
existing requested data. A frequent cause is a faulty query which cannot be executed.

Device-dependent Error

This bit is set if a device-dependent error occurs. An error message with a number
between -300 and -399 or a positive error number denoting the error in greater detail will
be entered in the error queue.

Execution Error

This bit is set if the syntax of a received command is correct but the command cannot be
executed due to various marginal conditions. An error message with a number between
-200 and -300 denoting the error in greater detail will be entered in the error queue.

Command Error

This bit is set if an undefined command or a command with incorrect syntax is received. An
error message with a number between -100 and -200 denoting the error in greater detail
will be entered in the error queue.

User Request

This bit is set upon pressing the [LOCAL] key, i.e. when the device is switched to manual
control.

Power On

This bit is set when the device is switched on.
