4.2.14 Messaging (Point-to-Point)
R&S
CMW offers three different ways to send and receive Short Message Service
(SMS) messages:
●
Via Traffic Channel (TCH) when a call is connected.
●
Via Paging Channel (PCH) (send) or Access Channel (ACC) (receive) when MS is
registered.
●
Via Service Option 6 or 14 when MS is registered.
Since the channels do have different capacities the length of one message depends on
the selected transmit mechanism. After sending or receiving the SMS the R&S
CMW
"MS Info" display shows the information about the length of the sent or received SMS.

SMS Message File Format
The R&S
CMW can send messages stored in a text file or entered directly at the GUI
and will receive and store messages in file(s). The format for send and receive mes-
sages are identical, so that a received message can be used to send it again. This is
an easy way to create SMS files. The SMS message file format has a header with all
necessary information. Some of this information will not be used in both directions. In
this case, the information will be blanked out.
