Super-VLAN Configuration 

 

This chapter describes the Super-VLAN function supported by the switch 
and how to configure the function.

Overview 

 

Super-VLAN

  is  also  called  VLAN  aggregation,  which  associates 

multiple  sub-VLANs.  Super-VLAN  interface  is  configured  with  IP 
address. Each sub-VLAN is a broadcast domain. Different sub-VLANs 
are separated at layer 2. To realize the inter-connection of different 
sub-VLANs, ARP proxy function is needed. The ARP proxy is used to 
perform the forwarding and processing of ARP request and response 
packets,  so  as  to  realize  the  layer-3  inter-connection  between  the 
layer-2  separated  ports.  The  users  in  Sub-VLAN  use  the  IP 
addresses  of  Super-VLAN  as  the  gateway  to  perform  layer-3 
communication.  Multiple  sub-VLAN  functions  save  the  IP  addresses 
via a network segment. 

 

 

 

The  VLANs  added  into  Super-VLAN  become  the  sub-VLANs.  The 

communication  in  one  sub-VLAN  completely  belongs  to  common 
layer-2 communication. Sub-VLAN cannot be bound to L3 interfaces 
to  perform  layer-3  forwarding,  but  perform  layer-3  communication 
via the corresponding super-VLAN. 

 

 

Sub-VLAN Function 

Common VLANs are added into Super-VLAN to become the sub-
VLANs. The layer-2 communication function between sub-VLANs is 
the same as the layer-2 communication function of common VLANs. 
The mode of adding ports into sub-VLAN is the same as that of 
adding ports into common VLANs,
