Configure EAPS 

 

In  Ethernet  L2  network,  the  STP  protocol  is  adopted  for  the  network 
security. The STP protocol is a standard ring-network protection protocol 
developed  by  IEEE  and  applied  widely.  But  in  actual  application,  it  is 
restricted  by  the  network  size  and  the  convergence  time  is  affected  by 
the network topology. STP convergence time is second-level. The bigger 
the network diameter, the longer the convergence time. 

 

To reduce the convergence time and remove the influence caused by the 
network size, Ethernet Automatic Protection Switching (EAPS) technology 
appears. EAPS is a link layer protocol especially applied in Ethernet ring. 
It can prevent the broadcast storm caused by the data loop.  

 

When a link on the Ethernet ring is disconnected, the standby link can be 
enabled rapidly to recover the communication between the nodes on the 
ring  network.  Compared  with  STP  protocol,  EAPS  has  the  features  that 
the  topology  convergence  speed  is  fast  (lower  than  50ms)  and  the 
convergence time is not related with the nodes on the ring network.
