C o n f i g u r e   O S P F   N S S A   A r e a  

NSSA  (Not-So-Stubby  Area)  area  is  similar  to  the  stub  area,  that  is,  do 
not  expand  the  type-5  LSA  to  NSSA  area  from  the  backbone,  but  can 
bring in AS outer route in the area with limited form. 
 
NSSA  can  bring  in  type-7  AS  outer  route  in  the  NSSA  area  via  re-
distribution,  and  then  NSSA  area  edge  router  converts  the  type-7  outer 
LSA  to  type-5  outer  LSA  and  floods  it  to  the  whole  AS  area.  The 
converting process supports summarizing and filtering. 

 

area nssa 

This command is used to configure one area as NSSA area, which is also 
called non-complete stub area. The no format of the command is used to 
recover the area to common area.

Syntax 

Description 

area-id 

The OSPF area ID 

default-information-originate 

Allow  the  NSSA  area  to generate  the  default  route. 
When  the  OSPF  process  is  configured  with  the  re-
distribution default route and if the NSSA area does 
not  configure  the  command,  the  default  route 
cannot be brought to the NSSA area. 

metric 

metric-value

 

Specify the metric value of NSSA default route. 

metric 

metric-type

 

Specify the metric-type pf the NSSA default route, 1 
or 2 

no-redistribution 

Do  not  allow  NSSA  area  to  bring  in  outer  route. 
Although  the  OSPF  process  is  configured  with 
redistribution  outer  route,  do  not  allow  binging  in 
outer route.. 

no-summary 

Do  not  allow  bringing  in  type-3  LSA  from  common 
area. After configuring the command, ABR router of 
NSSA  generates  one  default  route  to  be  notified  to 
the NSSA area (in type-3 LSA mode). The routers in 
the NSSA area reach the destination put of the area 
via the default route. 

translate-always 

The  area  ABR  of  NSSA  always  converts  type-7  LSA 
to type-5 LSA. 

translate-candidate 

The election between NSSA ABR decides whether to 
convert type-7 LSA to type-5 LSA. 

translate-never 

The area ABR of NSSA never converts type-7 LSA to
