Configure L2 Protocol Tunnel

This chapter describes L2 protocol tunnel function that Signamax series switches support and

how to configure the function.

The contents of this chapter are as follows:

Overview

L2 protocol control is to control the L2 protocol packets received on the port. L2 protocol

control function can realize the following functions:

L2 protocol tunnel

L2 protocol tunnel is to realize the transparent transmission of L2 protocols such as BPDU

and LACPDU in carriers’ network, as well as the spanning tree calculation and link

aggregation of the whole user network.

When L2 Protocol Tunnel function is enabled on the ports of the device, the device

replaces the destination MAC address of input L2 protocol packet with a special multicast

MAC address (by default, it is 01-00-0c-cd-cd-d0). The protocol packet is transferred to

tunnel packet, which is forwarded as common L2 packet in the VLAN corresponding to the

PVID of the port on which the tunnel function is enabled.

When the tunnel packet is output from the port whose L2 Protocol Tunnel function is

enabled, the destination MAC address is recovered to the destination MAC address of L2

protocol packet; the tunnel packet is recovered to L2 protocol packet, and sent out; when
