Destination address: to identify the destination address or the destination network of an IP
packet.
Network mask: it together with the destination address to identify the destination host or the
located segment address of router switching equipment.
the destination host or the located segment address of router switching equipment can be got
after the “logical AND” of the destination address and the network mask. For example: the
destination address is 128.255.1.1, the destination host or the router switching equipment
whose mask is 255.255.0.0 locates in the network segment address 128.255.0.0.
Egress interface: to identify from which interface of the router the IP packet is transmitted
Next hop IP address: to identify the next router switching equipment that the IP packet will
pass
The priority of the route in a routing table: for a same destination, several routes to different
next hops may exist. These different routes can be the static routes configured manually or
discovered by different route protocols. The route whose priority is higher will be the optimum
route.
Routes can be divided into the following two kinds depending on whether the router switching
equipment is connected to the destination directly or not:
Direct route: the network that the destination locates in is connected to the switch directly
Gateway route: the network that the destination locates in is connected to the route switching
equipment indirectly
Routes can be divided into the following two kinds due different destinations:
Network route: the destination is a subnet
Host route: the destination is a host
Configure Static Route/Default Route
The static route is a user-defined route, configured by users manually. It makes the
transmission of IP packets between source and destination adopt the route specified by users.
Compared with the dynamic route protocol, its advantages are security and resource efficiency.
The static route is unlike the dynamic route which needs to occupy the line bandwidth. It can
