Basic Vlan dot1q tunnel Function 

The port on which Vlan dot1q tunnel function is enabled, adds a layer of VLAN Tag to the 

packet when receiving a packet. The VLAN ID to which the Tag is added is the default 

VLAN ID of the port. If the received packet is a Tag packet, the packet is changed into a 

packet with two layers of tags. if the received packet doesn’t have a Tag, the packet is a 

packet with a single layer of tag.  

Flexible Vlan dot1q tunnel Function 

The flexible Vlan dot1q tunnel function is a flexible realization of the Vlan dot1q tunnel 

function by cooperating with the port VLAN. A port adds a specified external VLAN tag to 

a packet according to the items of the flexible Vlan dot1q tunnel (mapping) table and the 

VLAN ID in the packet Tag. Vlan dot1q tunnel mapping replaces the VLAN ID in the packet 

Tag with the specified VLAN ID.  

 

If a port doesn’t match the items in the flexible Vlan dot1q tunnel (mapping) table, then 

encapsulates the external VLAN Tag for the packet; the VLAN Tag is the port PVID VLAN. 

 

Flexible Vlan dot1q tunnel Function 

The flexible Vlan dot1q tunnel function is a flexible realization of the Vlan dot1q tunnel 

function by cooperating with the port VLAN. A port adds a specified external VLAN tag to 

a packet according to the  items of the flexible Vlan dot1q tunnel (mapping) table and the 

VLAN ID in the packet Tag. Vlan dot1q tunnel mapping replaces the VLAN ID in the packet 

Tag with the specified VLAN ID. If a port doesn’t match the items in the flexible Vlan 

dot1q tunnel (mapping) table, then the packet is discarded. This function can be realized 

through configuration, please refer to the configuration command 

vlan dot1q-tunnel 

drop.

 

TPID of Flexible Vlan dot1q tunnel 

TPID (Tag Protocol Identifier)

，

is a field of the Tag in a packet. It means the 

corresponding protocol type of the VLAN Tag. The value range of a VLAN Tag file is 

0x8100. By default, the value range of the external VLAN Tag in the Vlan dot1q tunnel 

packet is 0x8100. Different manufactures may set different values for the external VLAN 

Tag in the Vlan dot1q tunnel packet, such as 0x9100.
