connected with the Cisco device that sends BPDU packets with non-IEEE802.1s standard
format and the Cisco device is configured in the same MST domain.
When receiving the BPDU packets with non-IEEE802.1s standard format from the Cisco device
and if the MST domain name and revision level are the same as the current device, the port
records the MST configuration abstract information in the packet and regards the peer device
is in the same MST domain as itself.
Meanwhile, the port uses the same BPDU packets with non-standard formats as Cisco device
when sending packets. Therefore, you need to ensure that the mapping configuration between
VLAN and example in the domain configuration of the inter-connected devices are the same.
The feature is used only in the point-to-point link inter-connected with Cisco device. In the
shared link, the example status shock of the device may be caused.
When the port receives and accepts the packets in non-IEEE standard format sent by the Cisco
devices, the port works in Pre-Standard mode. To exit the mode, you need to execute MCHECK
operation manually.
MSTP Protection Features
Command
Description
Configuration Mode
spanning-tree guard {none | root | loop}
To set protection feature of a port
config-port-xxx
spanning-tree bpdu {filter | guard}
To set the BPDU protection/filtering
function of a port
config-port-xxx
spanning-tree bpdu guard
For the devices at the access layer, the access ports are directly connected with the user
terminal (such as PC) or file server. The access ports are set as edge ports to realize the rapid
transferring. When the ports receive the BPDU packets, the system automatically sets the
ports as non-edge ports and re-calculates the spanning tree, which causes the change of
network topology. In normal state, the ports do not receive BPDU packets. If someone forges
BPDU to attack the device, it may cause the network shock.
MSTP provides BPDU Guard function to prevent this kind of attack. After enabling the BPDU
protection function is enabled on the device and a port configured with edge port attributes
receives BPDU packets, MSTP shuts down the port and uses LOG information to prompt the
user.
