1. C oat gasket (11) with sealing cem ent and position on
shifter housing (12).
2. Position plunger (16), in 1st and reverse shift finger
(9), then carefully position control tower and gearshift
lever assembly on the shifter housing (12).
3. Install plunger (13), plunger spring (14) and plunger
retainer (15).
4. Install cap screws (20), and washers (19) retaining
control tower (6) to shifter housing. Tighten cap screws
firmly.
IM P O R T A N T : If a n e w clutch h o u s in g (3 ) is to
be installed, the rear face of th e h o u s in g m u st
first b e checked for s q u a re n e ss a n d th e pilot
hole for concentricity w ith the e n g in e on w h ic h
the o v e rh a u le d tran sm issio n w ill be installed.
1. Apply a light coat of gasket sealing cem ent to front
of transm ission case and set clutch housing gasket in
place. Apply a light coat of sealing cem ent to face of gas
ket.
2. Set clutch housing in place, using m ain drive gear
bearing cap (2) as a centering tool. Install cap screws and
washers to secure clutch housing to transm ission case.
Tighten cap screws to 60-80 foot-pounds torque.
