with silicone type grease, then position center bearing
and fiber brake washer on arm ature shaft.
3. Install overrunning clutch assembly on arm ature shaft
as follows:
a. Apply a light coat of engine oil on arm ature shaft
spiral splines.
b. Slide the overrunning clutch assembly onto a r m a ­
ture shaft with drive pinion toward end of shaft.
c. Slide retainer onto end of shaft with cupped sur­
face facing end of shaft (away from pinion).
d. Position co m m uta tor end of arm ature shaft on
a wood block, then place snap ring on drive end
of shaft and hold in place with a block of wood.
Strike block with a ham m er to force snap ring over end
of shaft. Slide snap ring down into groove in shaft. DO

e. Place thrust collar on shaft with shoulder next
to snap ring.
f. Position retainer and collar next to snap ring,
then use two pair of pliers as shown in Figure 11
to force retainer over snap ring.
4. Lubricate bushing in drive housing with silicone type
grease. M ake sure thrust collar is against snap ring
and retainer; then slide arm ature and overrunning
clutch assembly into drive end housing. Tilt armature
as necessary to m ake lugs on shift lever yoke engage
collar on clutch.
5. On starting m otor shown in figure 2, push center
bearing plate into counterbore in drive housing and
install four retaining screws and washers to attach
center bearing plate to drive housing. Tigten screws
evenly and firmly.
6. Position brushes in brush holders, then assemble each
brush holder together with the “ V " spring on support
pin. Push each holder and spring to bottom of sup­
port and rotate spring to engage the “ V ” in support
slot. Attach ground wire to grounded brush and field
lead wire to insulated brush.
7. Apply sealing com pound to extended portion of solen­
oid case flange contacted by the field frame. Check to
