NOTE: End of bearing is to be flush with bot
tom surface of stub shaft seal bore.
3. Lubricate new stub shaft oil seal (4) with “ Type A ”
hydraulic fluid. Install oil seal, with lip tow ard inside
of plug, and back-up washer (3) far enough into bore
of plug to provide clearance for the retainer ring (2),
using installer tool (J-5188) (fig. 7).
4. Using tru-arc pliers, install oil seal retaining ring (2)

(fig. 5). M ake certain that ring is properly seated in
groove.
5. Lubricate new adjuster plug O-ring seal (7) with vase
line and install on adjuster plug (6).
6. Assem ble large O .D . thrust bearing (inner) race (8),
upper thrust bearing (9), sm all O.D. thrust bearing
(outer) race (10), and thrust bearing spacer (11) on
the adjuster plug.
7. Press new bearing retainer (12) into needle bearing
bore, using suitable sleeve (fig. 8). Radial location of
dimples is not im portant.
CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY
The control valve assembly is a precision unit with sel
ectively fitted parts hydraulically balanced at the factory.
Only those parts which are m arked as service items are
replaceable. If replacem ent of any nonserviceable part is
necessary, the com plete valve assem bly m ust be replaced.
Cleanliness of the parts, tools, and w ork area is of the ut
m ost im portance during servicing of the valve assembly.
The valve assem bly should not be disassem bled unless
absolutely necessary. If the valve spool dam pener O-ring
requires replacem ent, remove the valve spool only. R e
place the O -ring and reinstall spool im m ediately. D O
N O T disassemble further.
