WATERPROOF GREASE
(SYMBOL “S4” O N CHARTS)
This type of lubricant should be waterproof
grease containing 20% to 35% calcium soap. On
models equipped with propeller shaft center bear
ings, both sides of the shield should be packed with
this lubricant at the time of assembly. This lubri
cant excludes water and dirt from bearing. Refer
to P R O P E L L E R SH A F T S (SEC. 4D) for procedure.
REFRIGERANT MACHINE OIL
(SYMBOL “S7” ON CHARTS)
Refrigeration machine oil is a highly refined
straight mineral petroleum oil.
SH IFT UNITS (2-SPEED A X L E S )
Remove plug in cover and fill to level of open
ing with oil.
HYDRAULIC BRAKE FLUID
(SYMBOL “SI 2” O N CHARTS)
The fluid indicated by the symbol "S 12" must
be genuine heavy duty brake fluid meeting the
heavy duty standards of S .A .E . 70R3.

Check master cylinder fluid level at intervals
indicated on charts. Remove dirt from around the
plug or cover; then remove.
Fill with fluid until level is within 1 /2 ” of
opening. Inspect to be sure vent hole is clean, then
install and tighten filler plug or cover.
SPECIAL GREASE
(SYMBOL “SI 7” O N CHARTS)
A semi-fluid grease having extreme pressure
properties and containing zinc oxide.
At regular lubrication intervals, or whenever
accessible during repairs or overhaul, apply lub
ricant sparingly to the following items and areas:
Door Striker Plates
Door Checks and Trunnions
Door Hinge Pins
Door Lock Remote Control Link
Cowl Ventilator Linkage
Seat Adjuster Slides
Door Lock Mechanism
Door Dove Tails
Window Regulator Channels
Window Regulators
Hood Hinges
Tilt Cab Guide Pin

In addition to above items, which are lubri
cated periodically, many other units use this lubri
cant at time of assembly after overhaul, as indi
cated in various sections of this manual.
TYPE A FLUID
(SYMBOL “SI 9” O N CHARTS)
The fluid indicated by the symbol "S 19" must
be an "Automatic Transmission Fluid - Type A "
supplied from containers bearing the mark "AQ-
A T F ," followed by an identification number and the
suffix letter " A . " D O N O T U SE A N Y O T H E R F L U I D .
POWER STEERING SYSTEM
Power steering system reservoir is located
on power steering hydraulic pump (fig. 17). Reser
voir is marked with an " O I L L E V E L ” mark. Use
only "Automatic Transmission Fluid - Type A ,”
D O N O T USE H Y D R A U L IC B R A K E F LU ID , S H O C K
A B S O R B E R F LU ID , O R SIM ILAR OIL.
Fluid level should be kept at "O IL L E V E L "
mark on reservoir. After cleaning reservoir and
cover, loosen cover bolt and remove. Usingaclean
receptacle, pour fluid through a 200-mesh screefi
- N O T A C L O T H S T R A IN E R . Keep fluid clean and
free from water.

age refer to information under "Chassis Lubricant"
(Symbol "C ") in this section.
B L E E D IN G S Y S T E M
Whenever a line is disconnected or a pump is
replaced, the air that has entered the hydraulic
system must be bled out, otherwise noisy and un
satisfactory operation will result.
