end of m ainshaft a short distance through rear
bearing.
b. Push m ainshaft to the rear of transm ission case.
M ainshaft rear bearing (19) should move with
m ainshaft. These procedures are accom plished to
obtain clearance between transm ission case (6)
and rear bearing locating ring.
c. If not clearance is obtained to use a bearing
puller on the rear bearing (19), block bearing;
then using bearing puller cross bar (J4558-5)
as shown in Figure 5 and two (3 /8 ” - 16 x 6” )
bolts, push m ainshaft forw ard and repeat step b.
Follow these procedures until bearing puller can
be used on the rear bearing (19).
9. W ith snap ring picks (J-8461-1), remove mainshaft
rear bearing locating ring (fig. 6).
10. Using bearing rem over plates (J-4414-4) and cross bar
(J-4458-5), remove m ainshaft rear bearing (19) (fig.
7). Rem ove 1st gear thrust washer (20).
11. The forward end of the m ainshaft {52) can now be
lifted upw ard to clear transm ission case and the entire

assembly removed. Accom plish rem oval procedures as
follows:
a. W rap a piece of strong rope around the assem bly
