2. Remove the governor tube assembly.
3. Rem ove two cap screws which attach the bracket to
cylinder head.
4. Rem ove governor and bracket as a unit.
NOTE: Governor overhaul information is ex­
plained later in this manual.
CYLINDER HEAD REMOVAL
AN D DISASSEMBLY
1. Rem ove all cylinder head cap screws, then lift off cyl­
inder head assembly. T ap head lightly with soft h a m ­
mer, if necessary, to break gasket joint.
2. Scrape cylinder head and block, if necessary to re­
move any part of gasket sticking to gasket.
3. Remove discharge valve cap nuts and lift out dis­
charge valve springs and discharge valves. Remove
discharge valve seats. Remove inlet valve springs and
inlet valves from top of cylinder block. Figure 23 il­
lustrates com ponents of cylinder head.
PISTON A N D C O N N E C T IN G ROD
REMOVAL A N D DISASSEMBLY
1. O n gear driven models, remove screws and lock w ash­
ers attaching crankcase bottom cover to crankcase
and remove cover.
2. Before removing, m ark each piston in relation to
bore. M arks will be used to reassemble parts in origi­
nal position. C onnecting rods and caps have m atching
ribs (fig. 20), showing proper position of cap on rod.
3. Straighten prongs of connecting rod bolt washers and
remove bolts and washers. Remove connecting rod
bearing caps and bearing inserts. Push pistons with
connecting rods attached out top of cylinder block.
Replace caps on rods with inserts in place to prevent
dam age to bearing inserts.
4. Rem ove piston rings from pistons. If connecting rods
are to be removed from pistons, rem ove piston pin
