elbow on cylinder head (fig. 2). Remove inlet elbow from
the cylinder head (if used).
On some air-cooled models, air strainer and manifold
are bolted to the cylinder block by two bolts (fig. 2).
Remove air strainer and m anifold as one com plete unit
from com pressor.
On water-cooled models, the air strainer is bolted to the
block (use sam e procedure as on the air-cooled model).
NOTE
Models N-6300-N and N-6300-P compressors
do not have a separate air strainer. These mod­
els are hose-connected to the engine air clean­
er.

CYLINDER HEAD REMOVAL
On air-cooled com pressor, remove six nuts from studs
attaching cylinder head to cylinder block. W ater-cooled
com pressor has ten nuts attaching cylinder head to cylin­
der block. Lift head assem bly off block. Rem ove cylinder
head gasket and discard.
CYLINDER HEAD DISASSEMBLY
(Key N um bers Refer to Figure 3)
1. Turn cylinder head bottom side up and remove dis­
charge valve seat (4), using a short length of 7/16
inch square tool stock with corners ground off, as a
wrench adapter. Refer to Figure 4 for adapter dim en­
sions and application.
2. Turn head right side up and tap lightly to perm it dis­
charge valves (5), springs (6) and cages to fall out of
cylinder head.
3. Pry inlet valve guard and pin assemblies from bottom
of cylinder head. Remove inlet valves in m anner illus­
trated in Figure 5.
4. N ote location of pipe plugs in cylinder head, then re­
move plugs to perm it thorough cleaning of internal
passages.
CYLINDER BLOCK REMOVAL
Remove six nuts and internal-teeth lock washers from
studs which attach cylinder block to crankcase. Lift cylin­
der block off crankcase and pistons. Rem ove gasket be­
