12. Rem ove com pression spring from push rod. Remove
sliding clutch and shift fork with rod from cover (fig.
11
).
INTER-AXLE DIFFERENTIAL
DISASSEMBLY (FWD. AXLE)
1. Lift inter-axle differential assem bly off output shaft
side gear (fig. 12).
2. Punch m ark both halves of differential case for refer­
ence at time of reassembly.
3. C u t lock wire, then remove bolts and nuts attaching
two halves of case together. Separate case halves and
remove spider, pinion gears, and thrust washers

OUTPUT SHAFT DISASSEMBLY (FWD. AXLE)
1. Using soft ham m er, drive output shaft and rear heli­
cal side gear forward and out of differential carrier
(fig. 13).
2. R em ove snap ring from output shaft, then lift side
gear (8) and bearing cone from shaft (fig. 14). R e­
move and discard two O-ring seals (12).
3. If inspection indicates necessity, use puller (J-3493) to
remove bearing from output shaft differential side
gear.
