SHIFT FORK AND SLIDING
CLUTCH REMOVAL
1. Rem ove shift fork seal and spring from carrier (View
A, fig. 5). Observe that seal has raised lettering indi­
cating proper position at reassembly.
2. Remove expansion plug at bottom carrier. Use brass
drift to drive shift fork shaft upw ard which will force
upper expansion plug from carrier.
3. Rem ove shift shaft and shift fork from carrier (View
A, fig. 5).
4. Remove sliding clutch gear from differential (View B,
fig. 5).
DIFFERENTIAL AND PLANETARY
ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

Differential and planetary unit assem bly m ust be re­
moved before pinion and cage can be removed.
1. M ark right differential bearing adjuster (8) and cap
(7) with punch (View C, fig. 5) for locating purposes
at assembly.
2. Remove bearing cap bolt lock wires, loosen bolts;
then remove cotter pin and adjuster lock (6) from
right adjuster (8) and rem ove adjuster.
3. Remove left adjuster (36), bearing cap (7) and lock
(38) as an assembly to insure correct location at as­
sembly (View A, fig. 6).
4. Lift differential and planetary unit assem bly out of
carrier (View B, fig. 6).
