STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION

NOTE:

To minimize corrosion and to make future removal of the steering wheel easier, apply a small
amount of oil or anti-seize compound to steering shaft splines and taper before installing the steer-
ing wheel.

1. Install the steering wheel (25) on the splines of the steering shaft (19). Be sure to align the match marks

placed on the wheel and steering column in step 3 above

(Figure 7-3, Page 7-3)

.

2. Install the steering wheel nut (27) and tighten to 13 ft-lb (17.6 N·m).

3. Install the plate (28)

(Figure 7-3, Page 7-3)

.

STEERING COLUMN

STEERING COLUMN REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the battery cables as instructed.

See WARNING “To avoid unintentionally starting...” in

General Warning on page 1-2.

2. Remove the steering wheel.

See Steering Wheel Removal on page 7-1.

3. Remove the front body as instructed in Section 4 – Body and Trim.

4. Remove the instrument panel.

4.1. Remove the plastic panel screws from the instrument panel.

4.2. Pull dash panel from the dash.

4.3. Disconnect the wires from the electrical components mounted on the dash panel. Do not allow

wires to touch.

4.4. Slide dash panel up and away from the steering column.
