Administrator’s Guide
Although you set the protocols during the installation process, you can
improve network performance by customizing the settings for your
particular network configuration. For example, the default method for
acquiring the controller IP Address is through DHCP. If your controller
operates in a NetWare environment (IPX), this default setting generates
unnecessary TCP/IP traffic.
You must log in as an administrator to set network protocol properties.
Enabling/Disabling the Ethernet NIC
Disabling the ethernet NIC disables the wired network path for the
controller and digital copier. If you have set up a wireless network, you
can still use the network-related functions of the controller. If you do not
have a functioning network connection, you can only use the device for
walk-up functions.
1
Log in as an administrator.
2
On the Administration tab, click the
Setup
subtab.
3
Click the
Network
link. The Network page opens.
4
In the Device area, click the
Network Card
drop-down list.
5
Select
Enable
or
Disable
.
6
Click
Save
.
7
If you change the TCP/IP protocol settings or enable/disable a
network card, you must reboot the controller before the changes take
effect.
For information on rebooting the controller, see
Rebooting the
Controller
on page 43.
Configuring Ethernet NIC Speed
The ethernet NIC speed is set to
Auto
by default. If you use a consistent
speed for all networked devices and transactions, you can set the speed
specifically. You may also want to set the speed manually if you are
experiencing speed-related network errors.
1
Log in as an administrator.
2
On the Administration tab, click the
Setup
subtab.
3
Click the
Network
link. The Network page opens.
4
In the Ethernet area, click the
Speed
drop-down list.
5
Select the appropriate speed for the controller NIC. The default setting
is
Auto
, which automatically senses and sets the correct speed.
