Wireless Networking Support
The controller supports these methods of wireless networking:
Wireless Local Area Network (LAN) only, using a wireless Network
Interface Card (NIC) installed in the controller and a Wireless Fidelity
(Wi-Fi) compatible access point nearby
Wireless LAN in conjunction with a wired Ethernet LAN
Wired Ethernet LAN with the wireless NIC used to communicate with
clients that are not connected to the network
Web-based Device Administration and Job Management
TopAccess, an embedded web-based device management tool, allows you
to perform device management functions over the Internet using either
the Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher or Netscape 7.2 or higher (for Windows
operating systems), Internet Explorere 5.1.7 or Netscape 7.02 (for Mac OS
9.2.2+), Safari 1.3.x.x (for Mac OS 10.3.x), Safari 2.0.x.x (for Mac OS
10.4.x), or Netscape 7.2 (for Unix or Linux operating systems) browsers.
TopAccess also allows end users to monitor and manage their print jobs
over the Internet.
SNMP-based Communication
The controller incorporates Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
technology for device discovery and management. Versions 1 and 3 are
supported. If you enable version 3, you must create one or more ID files
for the users to allow them to access certain functions through the
controller. See
SNMP Service
on page 40 for the full effects of each
version.
Scheduled Printing
The Print Scheduling feature allows you to specify the date and time you
want to print your job. This can be especially useful if you want to avoid
printing during peak hours.
Proof Printing
The Proof Print feature allows you to check the printed output on a
sample copy before printing an entire multi-copy job. This prevents costly
mistakes and ensures that you get the results you expect.
