Description
The ipLDK-60 can be equipped with up to 8 IP channels to support remote LG-Ericsson IP
Phones, Phontage (LG-Ericsson IP softphone) and IP CO lines for networking (refer to Ref A)
or trunking. Up to 16 IP Phones, which include Phontage softphones, can be registered with
an ipLDK-60. Each active call from/to an IP Phone or IP CO line requires a VOIB IP channel.
When all channels are busy, such calls will receive fast-busy tone as an indication of all
channels busy.
IP CO lines support both H.323 and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) to establish, maintain and
terminate IP calls. The ipLDK supports both SIP Trunking to provide SIP access as a normal
CO line or SIP Register for incoming call routing to specific authenticated users.
15.1 H.323
Description
H.323 is an IEEE standard for multimedia communications “over an unreliable network”. In
particular, H.323 is intended for use over IP networks where delivery of individual packets is not
guaranteed. In H.323, terminals can register with a GateKeeper for communication services;
the GateKeeper then manages the services to the terminal. H.323 employs several other
IEEE standards including H.245 for control signaling and H.225 for Call and RAS channel
signaling.
ipLDK operates in two modes employing H.323 with a GateKeeper for H.323 trunking and
without the GateKeeper for Private Networking (refer to Ref. A). How to configure both modes
of H.323 operation are provided; refer to section 15.1.1 for guidelines to configure operation
with a GateKeeper. Private Network configuration using H.323 is provided in section 16.7.2.
In addition, ipLDK supports several options to improve efficiency and reduce connection set-up
times. Options supported include:
Fast Mode
ipLDK can establish a media channel using H.245 or the H.323 Fast Mode.
Early H.245
ipLDK implements the early H.245 option; the H245 channel address is provided in the
call Setup message hence speeding call setup.
H.245 Tunnel
ipLDK implements the H.245 tunneling for control and security by encapsulating H.245 in
Q.931 messages
Consideration
The TOS byte of the IP packet can be defined in the ipLDK to adjust precedence of voice
communication packets.
